Presentation Title: Nb-based Anode Materials for Quick Charge Lithium Batteries

Abstract: 

     For global warming, energy conservation, carbon reduction, and the reduction of air pollution, the world is looking for new energy solution that are both environmentally friendly and economically viable. For the energy saving and CO2 reduction, the EV is popular topic in the world. For xEV applications, the high energy density, safe and high-rate charge batteries should be developed. Graphite anode with low cost and high capacity is used in commercial LIBs, but has the lithium dendrite safety issue under high-rate charging. The metal oxides, such as the Li4Ti5O12 (LTO) and TiNb2O7 (TNO), are considered as the good alternative anode materials for safe and high-rate charging lithium-ion batteries. The Nb-based anode materials have high specific capacity, low irreversible capacity loss, high power, quick charge and safety. The porous structure of TNO powder will improve the electrolyte immersion and shorten the lithium ion diffusion distance. The continuous carbon network has greatly increased the material conductivity and improved electron transfer of TNO anode material. The ultrafast charge anode material (TNO) has shown high rate capability (12C), high reversible capacity (>260 mAh/g) and low irreversible capacity loss (<3%) during the first cycle. The TNO power cells (TiNb2O7 /LiNiMnCoO2) have shown high charge rate (10C), high energy density (140 Wh/kg) and long life (>6000 cycles).
