Presentation Title: Niobium Titanium Oxide Cylindrical Cells: A Promising Solution for Low-Resistance and Long-Life High-Power Batteries
Abstract:
Niobium
titanium oxide is a promising anode material for high-power lithium-ion
batteries because of its excellent fast-charging capability and long cycle
life. In this study, 21700 cylindrical cells employing NTO anodes were
fabricated and evaluated for high-load power tool applications. Prototype cells
were successfully manufactured through optimization of electrode alignment and
winding processes, demonstrating the feasibility of cylindrical NTO cell
production. The
cylindrical NTO cells exhibited low polarization characteristics and excellent
durability. Under 45°C high-rate cycling conditions (5C discharge and 2C
charge), the NTO system achieved approximately 2,200 cycles, compared with
about 700 cycles for a benchmark high-power 21700 cell. Analysis also indicated
that cylindrical NTO cells offer significant potential for further resistance
reduction, making them attractive for applications requiring high power, rapid
charging, and extended service life. These results demonstrate that NTO-based
cylindrical cells are a promising solution for next-generation high-power
battery systems.
