Presentation Title: NBXCELER™ - Customized Niobium Products for Battery Industry
Abstract:
Since the beginning of our research in 2014, Niobium has been seen
as a key element for battery technology thanks to the great collaboration with
worldwide partners for the development of Niobium-based batteries, including
the team of Prof. John B. Goodenough, Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 2019. A line
of new products was designed to meet the application needs of different cathode
chemistries (LMO, NCM, LMFP, LNMO, and LFP) as well as for anode active
materials for highly safe and fast charge-type batteries. NBXCELER™ is a
series of customized niobium oxide products for battery application developed
by CBMM since 2019 whose naming strategy is based on purity level, crystalline
structure and particle size. Covering a quite broad range of reactivity,
surface area, and morphology, CBMM’s actual product portfolio is well
structured to support the battery industry in coating, doping and active anode
materials. Likewise, CBMM is pushing with different expansion projects in Araxa
plant in Brazil to support the growing demand for niobium oxides in lithium-ion
batteries.
Biography:
Dr. Sidney Aquino was graduated in Chemistry by the University of Sao Paulo (Brazil) in 2006, with master’s in science by the same University in 2009. In 2012, become PhD. in Electrochemistry with a sandwich fellowship between the University of Sao Paulo in Brazil and the University of Utah in the United States. For more than 16 years in academia, 35 scientific papers have been published in the field of electrochemistry on the development of nanomaterials for electrochemical application, environmental wastewater treatment, energy conversion, and hydrogen production. In 2019, Dr. Sidney transitioned his career to join CBMM’s Battery Business Front as lab leader on the development of customized Niobium Oxide and Mixed Oxides for battery industry. Since 2024, Dr. Sidney has been supporting the New Materials and Applications Division as product and process specialist, where is responsible for driving technical initiatives and fostering innovation in niobium oxides and mixed oxides for battery applications. In this role, he continues to bridge scientific research with industrial application, positioning niobium as a key enabler for the future of sustainable energy.
