Presentation Title: Research Progress on the Intergrown Cathode Materials for High-Performance Lithium-Ion Batteries


Abstract: 

    The rapid development of emerging strategic industries such as portable devices, electric vehicles, and large-scale energy storage urgently requires the development of high-energy-density, long-life, and low-cost rechargeable battery technologies, which relies on the development of high-performance battery materials. Lithium-rich manganese-based cathode materials for lithium-ion batteries have always faced the dilemma of simultaneously achieving high specific capacity and high structural stability. This report, based on structural optimization of lithium-rich materials, proposes the concept of polycrystalline intergrown structures. This presentation reports recent progress of our group in the design and preparation of bulk layered/rock-salt intergrown cathodes and multi-scale bulk/surface layered/rock-salt intergrown cathodes. The presentation will elucidate the crucial role of niobium in material structure design and regulation, and reveals the stabilization mechanism of niobium on material interfaces and electrochemical performance by using advanced characterization methods such as synchrotron radiation. This opens up new research directions and broad prospects for the design and modification of high-performance electrode materials for next-generation high-capacity, long-life rechargeable batteries.


Biography: 

      Prof. Ning Li, Researcher and Doctoral Supervisor, School of Materials Science and Engineering, Beijing Institute of Technology, also serves as the Head of New Energy Technology at the Chongqing Innovation Center of Beijing Institute of Technology. He has been selected as Chongqing Outstanding Youth, Beijing Nova program, and Chongqing Outstanding Young Talent. To date, he has published over 100 papers in journals such as Nature Communications, Angewandte Chemie, and Advanced Materials, and has over 40 approved patents, including 2 PCT patents. He serves on the youth editorial board of journals such as Carbon Neutralization, Tungsten, and Rare Metals.
